Free things. Everyone loves them. But what’s the catch? At Boston’s Green Fest there wasn’t one! I went with my family to Green Fest yesterday because my sister and I are Disney Channel junkies and couldn’t pass up a chance to meet the up-and-coming Disney Channel stars of “Kickin’ It,” who were signing autographs. I need not mention that we hadn’t even seen the show before. That should give you an idea of how much we dig our Disney. But we ended up finding so much more than autographs and pictures (it starts to get scary when the stars are younger than you, doesn’t it?).

The white Green Fest booths lined the base of the buildings near Faneuil Hall with oodles of free giveaways. To give you a little taste…lots of the booths had “Wheel of Fortune” wheels that you could play to win prizes. And I’ll let you in on a little secret…everyone wins a prize. We walked away with star-shaped highlighters, new and experimental flavors of Smart Food popcorn, the autographs of some B-list stars and a few pamphlets (yeah, I like pamphlets, okay?). The vendors ranged from charity organizations selling cheap handmade jewelry and gifts from around the world, to spokesman for clean energy and solar power.

It rained for most of the day yesterday, but hopefully today the weather will be a little brighter! And if not, I’m sure the Boston Tap Company’s performance will have you smiling anyway.

Tips:

• Smartfood. ‘Nuff said.
• Make sure to check out the stages to see what bands and singers are performing. I know the Boston Tap Company, for one, will be there today.

BONUS: The USS Constitution will be under sail for the second time in a century today at noon. If you’re in Boston for Green Fest this is a historic event that you don’t want to be left out of.
