Coming in at #2 in the poll “Where to Next?” was Martha’s Vineyard! This is one of my family’s favorite spots on the island, and it’s a perfect day trip.

On the road between Oak Bluffs and Edgartown you will find the Joseph Sylvia State Beach. Along that beach you will find “the bridge in Martha’s Vineyard that everyone jumps off.” Lots of locals frequent this spot to splash into the ocean, and although the beach can be crowded during the day, not a lot of people know about this bridge. It’s a great spot for swimming and it’s not too high of a jump. You’ve got to try it while you’re here. If all your friends jumped off a bridge, wouldn’t you?

Tips:

• Bring sunblock and snacks, there’s no food place close by, but the sun is RIGHT THERE.
• Be prepared to pee in the sea, there’s no restroom either.
• Bring towels and a sense of adventure.
• This is the bridge and beach from a little movie called “Jaws” …don’t know if you’ve heard of it. But don’t worry there aren’t actually any sharks at this beach.

When: Lots of fun during the day, but the beach clears out around 4 if you don’t like crowds
